History

Incorporated in 1977, the Center Against Family Violence started as a hotline that referred women who were victimized by domestic violence to a network of safe houses and private homes that offered shelter to women and their families. A Shelter for Battered Women became a reality two years later. By 1983, the Shelter for Battered Women was moved to a larger facility, at an intentionally nondescript and undisclosed location that it still occupies today. After the shelter was established the Family Resource Center, Battering Intervention and Prevention Program and Ritzy Raggs Resale Store were adopted into the program.
